The Gaylord CROP Walk is scheduled for Sunday, September 12, 1:30 p.m. for registration, 2:00 p.m. for the walk. We start at the First United Methodist Church in Gaylord. Walker packets are available in the narthex following worship or from the church office during the week. Or contact Judy Loll if you would like to volunteer to walk, to help with registration or assist along the route. Church World Service uses the money raised to feed the hungry, and 25% of the proceeds go to support our local food pantry. Help Peace recapture the “Dusty Shoe Award” by registering the greatest number of participants! And, more importantly, support those in our community and world who are poverty stricken. Your participation is appreciated!
Our new Sunday School program will begin on Sunday, September 12. At worship, members of the congregation will present new Bibles to those who have enrolled. During the coffee hour we will have ice cream sundaes for everyone. And during the Sunday School hour children will meet their teachers, sing songs, and enjoy a special craft.
This Is Not Oprah’s Reading Group will be discussing Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, a collection of stories told by a variety of pilgrims to pass the time on their way to the tomb of St. Thomas a Becket. The stories are a fascinating insight into medieval culture, in which the sacred and the secular were inseparable.
Discussion begins on Thursday, September 9, at 10:00am on the following schedule:
